Being A college student means many different thing to many different people. To some it means partying and to others it's a right a family passage. Most people think of college as a means to a career. For me it is all of those, but it also means living on a budget.
I am currently unemployed and living off of the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill, from which I receive $2000 a month for living expenses. If it seams like a lot that's because it is. Denver metro receives one of the top highest benefit payments for the G.I. Bill in the nation. Unfortunately this is because this area is also one of the most expensive to live in.
The money I receive goes very far if I choose not to live frivolously and spend my money wisely. After paying my mortgage, car insurance, life insurance, cable and internet bill, gas and electric bill, and my Netflix account for the month, I still have roughly $1000 left from my payment. Out of that $1000, $350 usually goes to groceries during that month. Which leaves me with $650. Spending $30 dollars on gas each week is another $120. That leaves me with $430 per month to do what I want with, which is actually quite a decent amount to have for doing the things I enjoy.
